This could be a long one folks....

So I haven't updated in a while because we've been pretty busy with the holidays!  With the end of 2010 coming upon us, I have been thinking about a lot of the changes our family has had this year.  With that being said I want to put some of it down on "paper" (so to speak...seeing as though I'm really typing it out on my blog).  As I've mentioned before this blog is mostly for myself, and my ever forgetful memory, and it just a bonus that I get to share it with my friends and family.  So forgive my ramblings...

  • This time last year I was convinced I was having just one baby, it wasn't until Jaunuary (after multiple ultrasounds) that I REALLY knew we were going to have 2 babies!
  • having 2 babies I gained 43.5 pounds and have now lost 47.5 pounds!   All due to lack of sleep, poor eating habits and lack of exercise.  There have been multiple times I've asked myself "did I eat lunch" and times when Matt and I have been too tired to eat dinner.
  • I had friends tell me, and I too share the feeling, that the first 12 weeks of the babies lives is kind or a blur....good thing I have this blog!
  • I turned 30.  I really wanted to be 30 and pregnant (once I found out my due date was about a month after my birthday) but instead I had my two beautiful babies a week before I turned 30.
  • my house has turned into what looks like a daycare...2 swings, 2 bumbos, 2 bouncy seats, 2 exersaucers, 1 jumparoo, 2 cribs, pacifiers littered everywhere, no less then 8-16 burp rags scattered around the house at all times, and the ever growing amount of books, light up toys and teething toys!
The babies turned 6 months a few days ago...unbelievable, right?

Here's what happening....

Vivian is wearing size 2 diapers.  She is eating 3 to 6 ounces of formula 4 times a day (averaging 15 - 18 ounces) and sleeping 11ish hours at night.  Recently she's been waking up a few times in the night and because she doesn't love the pacifier she's a bit more of a challenge to get back to sleep.  Hopefully, this is just a brief phase.  Vivian is still wearing 3 month clothing.  Last time I weighed her she weighed about 14 pounds, she has worked hard for each.and.every.single pound!  Vivian can roll from side to side but has yet to swing her little body onto her belly.  I think she is just too smart to do so because of her distaste of tummy time.  She can roll from her tummy to her back in a blink of the eye and is very graceful at doing so.  Vivian sits happily in her bumbo for 5 to 15 minutes at a time but not quite interested in "flying solo" quite yet.  Vivian has been sleeping on her tummy for naps and a little bit at night because I'm afraid her head is getting flat in the back...I'll keep you posted if it helps!

Oliver is still wearing size 2-3 diapers.  Oliver is taking 7 ounces of formula 4 times a day (28 ounces total) and sleeping 11ish hours at night.  He still wakes up a few times throughout the night but is quick to go back to sleep with the reinsertion of his pacifier by mom or dad.  He can find them in his bed now and is able to put them in his own mouth every so often.  (remember...I've been scattering them in his bed for months now just waiting for the moment he'd like to reach over and grab one and it's finally staring to pay off!) Oliver is still wearing some 6 months clothes but is quickly growing out of them into 9 month clothing.  The last time I weighed him he was 18.5 pounds.  Oliver can now roll from his back to his tummy proficiently but due to his "rolls of love" he is unable to get from tummy to his back too often without becoming frustrated and then a little assistance from mommy or daddy.  When laying too close to Vivian he prefers to use her as a launching pad to increase his swift transition from back to tummy.   Vivian...not such a fan of said approach.  Oliver can sit up unassisted for a minute or so at a time and for much longer with a boppie snuggled safely around him.

The number one comment we get is WOW Oliver is so big compared to Vivian.  Yep, we know and we love them just the way the are!  My sister swears God sent Oliver because she needed a chubby little guy to love on since she already has a dainty little girl of her own.  Don't worry she spoils them equally!  Tomorrow we are headed to the doctor for their 6 month check up and more shots...another sad day for all 3 of us!

The babies are still eating solid foods once a day but in the next week or so I'll probably be increasing that to twice a day.  This is a list of the foods they have tried (listed in order of preference by both babies) sweat potatoes, squash, pears, applesauce, prunes, sweat peas, green beans (although my sister made some home made green beans today and they were a hit!)  They love to eat Mum Mums and feed themselves.  Oliver is getting pretty good at holding his own bottle but only out of necessity, he'd much prefer someone to do it for him.  Vivian would like to feed herself her own bottle but it might take her all day to eat as she like to take it in and out, in and out.

We all had a wonderful Christmas which included: napping on the go, napping in mommy and daddy's arms, working, sleeping, working, opening packages, trips to Grandparents' homes, changes in traditions and new traditions.   With all this said, I hope my children will grow up knowing what the true meaning of Christmas is all about.

Here are a few pictures to enjoy! I haven't been that great at taking pictures...it's enough just trying to manage two babies while we are out and about...let alone remember to take photos!

The pacifier bandit is back (all 17 pounds of her)...tutu and all!  She just likes to "take a drag" off of them and then offer them to their rightful owner...we're all family, right?

It has indeed been a whirlwind holiday season...but so much fun! It was fun to see the babies react with wonder to the lights and sounds of the season wherever they went.
These past 6 months have been delightful for one proud Granny! Oliver and Vivian are wonderful additions to the world...I'm so glad they are here!
